Corporate Profile
Maritime Testing (1985) Limited is a consulting engineering and environmental services firm, owned and operated by Nova Scotians and providing services in Atlantic Canada and beyond for over 40-years. Maritime Testing was founded in 1967 and initially provided materials (i.e., asphalt, concrete and aggregates) testing, design, and inspection services specifically for the road building industry. However, over the years we expanded into multi-disciplinary services in the areas of natural sciences, indoor environments, environmental investigations, remediation and risk assessments. Our environmental capabilities were developed in 1982 in response to offshore activity. In 1985, several local employees purchased Maritime Testing from the parent organization. Since then, Maritime Testing has broadened the scope of services offered.
Maritime Testing offers consulting, inspection, testing and design services in the following disciplines through four separate divisions:
We at Maritime Testing take pride in being an innovative company. We led the way for Canadian Standards Association (CSA) certification in Nova Scotia when we began operating the first (1983) CSA certified materials testing laboratory in the Province; it was several years
before any other local firms obtained equivalent CSA certification. We were the first consulting firm in the province to receive the Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association Certificate of Recognition. We are the first and only firm offering pavement smoothness testing to the Province of Nova Scotia using high speed profilograph technology. In the field of environmental sciences, we were also the first company in Nova Scotia to acquire the technology for the testing, inspecting and monitoring of asbestos. Our capability in this field is recognized on a national level.
Maritime Testing is sufficiently large to offer our clients diversified as well as in depth services but maintains the flexibility to quickly respond to our clients' requirements through a personal, hands-on approach.
We provide services to public sector clients including Defence Construction Canada, Department of National Defence, Public Works and Government Services Canada, the Nova Scotia departments of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal and Education, and various school boards and municipalities across Nova Scotia. Our private sector clients include property developers, construction contractors, industry (aerospace, food processing, pulp and paper, steel work, printing), commercial (retail, office, gasoline distribution), residential property owners and managers (apartment buildings) and homeowners.
Maritime Testing operates from our main office and laboratory in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia as well as from seasonal field offices in various locations throughout the Maritimes. Maritime Testing has recently moved to a larger, custom-built building within Burnside Industrial Park. Our new modern office building and state-of-the-art laboratories were built to our specifications, which allow for a new, well-organized work environment to our ever-expanding workforce.
We are affiliated, through common ownership, Happy Homes Indoor Environments a firm that specialize in control of microbialcontamination on building environments and consumer goods, and improvement of indoor environments.
Maritime Testing has approximately 45 personnel employed full time plus a complement of seasonal technicians, for a total staff of approximately 65. Our team is diverse; we are civil engineers, environmental engineers, biologists, geologists, water resource technologists, certified engineering technologists, and technicians of various disciplines (environmental, geotechnical and materials). All staff members are safety certified and regularly participates in professional development opportunities. Corporately we are members of all pertinent professional associations including the Consulting Engineers of Nova Scotia and the Environmental Services Association of Nova Scotia. Individually, we are members of the professional associations for engineers and geoscientists in all of the Atlantic Provinces as well as TechNova, the certifying body for engineering and applied science technicians and technologists.
